This game is a fantastic port of the internet flash game of the same name! Works well, bugs are minor and generally don't disrupt gameplay, and you can find yourself wasting hours in front of the DS just messing around with this little app. A must for any homebrew collection!
Replayability | ||||||||||||
The game features 12 simple brushes, that interact with each other in unique ways. Pour down concrete to stop the flows from the top of the screen, then burn straight through it again using acid. Water, snow, acid, antimatter, liquid fire, and more!
Graphics | ||||||||||||
Graphics are well designed but simple enough that they don't distract you from the gameplay. Water acts more like a power than a liquid, but it's a good imitation nonetheless and something you barely notice.
Story | ||||||||||||
There is no story, as this isn't a game. The whole point is that there is no point! Waste your spare time in a world of sand!
Gameplay | ||||||||||||
Very addictive, and very time consuming. Although World of Sand might not appeal to everyone, it's open-endedness means that the vast majority of people that try it out will be impressed in some way or another. For those that have played the online version of the game, you will find that this one is exactly the same in terms of gameplay and is a good port, despite having less brushes and fewer options than the PC original. As I don't have a link I am unable to point people towards the PC version. The website is bookmarked on another browser of mine I don't have access to at the moment.
Control | ||||||||||||
The control mechanism is very thought-out, and I can't find any complaints with it. Selecting brushes is done with the + control pad, whilst changing the width of brushes is done using the Y and X buttons. Drawing on the screen is controlled by, you guessed it, the stylus. It all feels completely natural after a while. To turn the flows from the top of the screen on and off, the user must hold the L button and tap the spot the flow is falling from. Sometimes this can be a bit fiddly and takes a while to work, but it's not a major problem.
Pros | ||||||||||||
1. Very addictive | ||||||||||||
2. Open-ended, allowing users to develop their own methods of play
3. Controls are natural and intuitive
Cons | ||||||||||||
1. There are a few minor bugs that can lead to unexpected results
2. Could have a few more brush options, and features such as user-defined gravity
3. It doesn't seem to be being developed any more, so this is the final version
Replayability: | 8 | Excellent and will appeal to many
Graphics: | 7 | Great graphics that suit the purpose
Story: | N/A | N/A | ||||||||||
Gameplay: | 9 | Very addictive
Control: | 6 | Points removed for some control issues
Overall Rating: | 7.5 | Overall, worth the download
Boxart | N/A | |||||||||||

Do you mind if I make some new screenshots? I have something I want to try (when I get everything I need installed on this laptop).
On another note, I've started from scratch with the website. I can't access the stuff I already did.
